About Dawn
Who is Dawn Heumann?
Dawn Heumann is a commercial photographer and director based in Sebastopol, California, in the heart of Sonoma County, with nearly two decades creating campaign imagery for national brands, wineries, and advertising agencies. Clients include Amazon, Kellogg's, Walmart, Duckhorn Vineyards, and Silver Oak.
What kind of photography do you specialize in?
Lifestyle, food and beverage, wine, packaged goods, and hospitality. My signature is blending product and human moments in the same frame, so brands feel lived-in rather than staged. I also direct motion work in the same visual world as my stills.
How long have you been a commercial photographer?
Nearly twenty years. I've grown from local editorial and wine country work into national advertising campaigns, while still shooting for wineries and food brands in Sonoma and Napa.
Do you direct video and motion work?
Yes. I direct commercial motion alongside my photography, often capturing stills and video within a single production. That lets brands build a cohesive library of campaign assets from one shoot instead of two.
Are you part of any professional organizations?
Yes, I'm a member of American Photographic Artists (APA). My business is also a member of 1% for the Planet, and I plant a tree for every person on every set.
Where I Work
Where is Dawn Heumann based?
I'm based in Sebastopol, California, in Sonoma County. I was born and raised here, which gives me deep roots in wine, food, and hospitality. I work throughout the Bay Area and travel nationwide for campaigns.
What areas do you serve?
I work across Sonoma County, Napa Valley, San Francisco, Marin County, and Los Angeles, and I'm available nationwide. Most of my wine and hospitality work happens in Northern California wine country, while campaign work takes me wherever the production needs to be.
Do you travel for shoots?
Yes. I travel regularly for campaign work and am available for productions anywhere in the United States. Travel logistics are planned into the estimate so there are no surprises.
Do you photograph wineries in Napa and Sonoma?
Yes, winery and vineyard work is one of my core specialties. I've photographed for Duckhorn Vineyards, Silver Oak, Rodney Strong Vineyards, Roederer Estate, and Bella Union Winery, covering estate imagery, harvest, tasting rooms, bottle photography, and the people behind each label.
Clients & Specialties
Who are Dawn Heumann's clients?
My clients include Amazon, Kellogg's, Walmart, Silk, Tempur-Sealy, Frida, ByHeart, Sweet Earth, Carrot Fertility, and Straus Family Creamery, along with wineries like Duckhorn Vineyards, Silver Oak, Rodney Strong Vineyards, and Roederer Estate. I work with advertising agencies, in-house creative teams, and brand managers.
Do you work with advertising agencies and in-house teams?
Yes. I regularly partner with agency creative directors, art buyers, producers, and in-house marketing teams. I'm known for calm, collaborative sets and clear communication, so internal teams can focus on the bigger picture while I handle the details of the shoot.
Do you shoot food and beverage photography?
Yes, food and beverage is a core part of my work, from packaged goods for brands like Kellogg's and Silk to farm-to-table stories for producers like Straus Family Creamery. I favor natural light and real moments, with food styled to look like something you actually want to eat.
Do you shoot lifestyle photography?
Yes. Lifestyle is the thread that runs through all of my work. I build scenes around real people, small gestures, and lived-in details, whether the campaign is for a national consumer brand or a wine country hospitality group.
Do you photograph packaged goods and consumer products?
Yes. I photograph consumer packaged goods for national retail and e-commerce campaigns, including work for Amazon, Walmart, Silk, and Frida. My approach places product inside human moments, so one shoot can deliver hero product shots and lifestyle imagery that share a look.
What is it like to work with you on set?
I run calm, organized, collaborative sets. I plan thoroughly, make decisions quickly, and keep the energy grounded so talent and crew can do their best work. Clients often say my sets feel like a community by the end of the day.
Hiring & Booking
How do I hire Dawn Heumann?
Reach out through the contact page or email contact@dawnheumann.com with a short description of your project, timeline, and where the images will be used. I respond personally, and most projects start with a conversation about goals before any estimate is written.
How far in advance should I book?
For most projects, two to six weeks of lead time is comfortable. Larger campaign productions with casting and multiple locations benefit from six to eight weeks. Harvest shoots in wine country (August through October) book earliest, so wineries should reach out in spring or early summer.
How much does it cost?
Every project is estimated individually based on scope, production needs, and how the images will be used. A one-day brand shoot is priced differently than a multi-day national campaign with casting and full crew. I provide a clear, itemized estimate up front so there are no surprises.
How is image licensing and usage handled?
Licensing is scoped to how and where the images will be used, such as web, social, packaging, retail, or paid advertising, and for how long. Usage terms are spelled out plainly in every estimate. If your needs grow after delivery, licensing can be extended rather than reshooting.
Do you handle production?
Yes. I bring creative direction and production clarity in the same person. Depending on the project, I can handle location scouting, casting, styling teams, permits, and scheduling, or plug into an agency's existing production. Clear production is part of why my sets run smoothly.
